Free & Discounted Tech Tools for Nonprofits — What’s Out There and How to Use Them

If you’re running a nonprofit, you’re probably juggling ten things at once and trying to stretch every dollar. The good news is, a lot of major tech companies offer free or discounted tools just for nonprofits — you just have to know where to look (and how to actually set them up without losing your mind).

Here are a few services worth checking out:

Cloudflare

Cloudflare offers their Pro plan for free to nonprofits through TechSoup. That gives you better security, faster load times, reduced server costs, and protection from DDoS attacks. It’s powerful stuff — but the setup isn’t always straightforward. Once it’s running, though, it basically babysits your website for you.

Cloudflare’s Project Galileo is designed for nonprofits, journalists, and public interest groups that are at risk of cyberattacks — think DDoS, hacking, and censorship attempts. It goes way beyond the basic Pro plan, offering enterprise-grade protection for free to organizations doing important, often controversial work. If your nonprofit deals with advocacy, activism, or anything that might ruffle the wrong feathers, this is absolutely worth applying for. It’s not automatic — you have to request access and meet their criteria — but once you’re in, the level of security and support is top-tier.

1Password

Free password manager for nonprofits. It’s a solid way to keep your team from emailing logins around (you know who you are). You can create vaults, share access securely, and stop worrying about who’s using the same password on every account.

Not a nonprofit org? 1Password also offers a free account for journalists.

New Relic

If your site is acting weird and you have no idea why, New Relic can help figure it out. They offer free full-access plans for nonprofits with enough usage to cover most small to mid-sized orgs. It’s super useful, but a bit overwhelming at first — lots of charts, graphs, and jargon.

Google Workspace for Nonprofits

Free Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Drive, etc., all under your own domain. Most orgs already know about this one, but the setup process can still be annoying (especially the TechSoup verification). Once you’re in, though, it’s rock solid.
